The Archaeological Archive consists of nine collections. Some of these focus on the history of the Budapest History Museum (Poster Collection, Archival Documents Collection, Media Library, Press Collection, Institutional Collection), while the Professional and Personal Papers Collection preserves the scientific legacy of the museum’s deceased colleagues.

Another major focus of the Archaeological Archive is the collection of reports and documentation from archaeological excavations and observations conducted in Budapest. These are supplemented by a database containing information on artifacts discovered within the city, including object inventories, photographic and drawing catalogues, as well as key bibliographic references.

99% of the materials available in the collections are in Hungarian. Research access requires prior authorization and must be conducted in accordance with the research regulations. Requests for permission can be submitted in person (Budapest History Museum, Building E, Buda Castle), by post (Budapest History Museum, 1014 Budapest, Szent György Square 2.), or via email at btm@btm.hu.
